Dam, Ørje

Dam Ørje has a long and important history that dates back to the late 1800s. It was originally built in 1894 as part of the regulation of the Ørje River, to control the water flow to local hydropower plants and ensure a stable water supply.

Over the years, the dam has been rebuilt and upgraded several times. It is now facing a new and extensive renewal. The existing structure is no longer suitable for modernization, and almost the entire dam will therefore be demolished and rebuilt in a larger and longer version. The new dam will meet current safety and functionality requirements in accordance with dam safety regulations and will be designed to handle future challenges such as increased flood risk.

Østfold Energi AS has awarded NCC the contract for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the dam. The project includes the demolition of the existing regulation dam and the construction of a new, modern dam structure. Construction work began in January 2025, and the new dam is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. Outdoor works will be finalized in spring 2026.

Jotne Ankers is supplying railings, gates, and a pedestrian bridge for the project.
